GENESIS, the exhibition

Planet SouthSanctuariesAfricaNorthern SpacesAmazonia & Pantanal

Five chapters, for five geographical areas that make up Genesis, like a scenographic journey around the world, an invitation to travel and think about the beauty of our planet.

245 captivating black and white photographs of Sebastião Salgado are presented again at La Sucrière in Lyon, from June, 3rd!

The Genesis exhibition presents the result of his epic 8-year expedition and invites the visitor to discover the mountains, deserts and oceans, animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society.

The artistic experience is intense, but also moving through its commitment to our planet and its preservation.

The exhibition is entirely in English and French.

“As well as displaying the beauty of nature, Genesis is also a call to arms.”

INSTITUTO TERRA
The exhibition in Lyon also presents a corner dedicated to the Instituto Terra, the organization created by Lélia Wanick Salgado and Sebastião Salgado to realize a dream – that of reforesting the Fazenda Bulcão, a former cattle ranch belonging to Sebastião’s family in the small town of Aimorés in Brazil’s state of Minas Gerais.

“Over the past 20 years, our non-profit organization, Instituto Terra, has planted 2,7 million trees of about 300 different species that once flourished there. As a result, once arid and infertile hillsides have been transformed into lush vegetation. The rebirth of this tropical microclimate has in turn attracted birds and animals not seen in the area for decades.”
